AT HISTORIC FORT JACKSON IN BURAS, LA

Welcome to the Plaquemines Parish Fair and Orange Festival

Plaquemines Parish is Louisiana's southernmost Parish where the great Mississippi River meets the Gulf of Mexico. The Parish is a region of ecological wonder with its many waterways, fishing and hunting grounds, and the best Citrus in the Country. This year we are celebrating the 68th Anniversary of the Plaquemines Parish Fair & Orange Festival held annually the first full weekend of December.  The festival will be held at Historic Fort Jackson in Buras, Louisiana, THE HOME OF THE ORANGE FESTIVAL.

In 1947, the first “Plaquemines Parish Orange Festival” was formed to promote cultivation and marketing of Plaquemines’ citrus crop. A stunning freeze in 1951 nearly crushed the organization in its infancy. To preserve the good work that had been accomplished up to that time, the focus of the organization was enlarged to include all the bounty of the Parish. In 1955, the Orange Festival was renamed the “Plaquemines Parish Fair & Orange Festival”...

The Orange Festival is a great time for the whole family with  nonstop entertainment ranging from live music on two stages from some of the best local bands, carnival rides for kids of all ages,  the Children's Revue Fun Pageant, a 5K Run/Walk, fun contests for everyone  from duck calling to orange peeling, helicopter rides and so much more to enjoy.  Also, this year the Orange Festival is pround to annouce the return of the "ORANGE BOWL"...

Congratulations to his majesty Norris Babin, the 2013 Plaquemines Parish Fair & Orange Festival King
